I love Gundam Wing. And I'm sure millions of little kids that were watching Cartoon Network a couple of years ago can say the same. It's not that I have a problem with other people liking Gundam Wing, but I sort of get an icky feeling when I think that most of the GW fans in America have only seen the crappy dubbed version.
I watch the show in Japanese, and I can't understand why everybody else isn't the same. Don't you, as American/English Gundam Wing fans, find the jacked-up dialogue and bad voice acting atrocious? I do, and nowadays I only watch the show in English when someone else wants to watch it with me. And trust me, I cringe the whole way through. I also snicker at some parts because the voice acting is so bad, so fake, that I can't help but laugh.
I admit that when I first saw the show it was on Cartoon Network, in English, yes. But I had never experienced then the greatness that is original Japanese voice acting: believable, enthusiastic, utterly amazing voice acting. When I first watched GW in Japanese, I knew I would never watch in English again. It's that much better, believe me.
Although I have a lot against what whoever dubbed the show, I have nothing against fans of the English version of Gundam Wing. I feel sorry for them, but I hold no contempt. They can't help it if they can't get a hold on the original Japanese language track. But people who have the bilingual DVDs and still watch it in English, well, that's f*cked up. Just kidding!
I encourage anyone who has only seen the English version of the show to try to get their hands on just one bilingual track DVD. You'll be so happy when you see the light! Anyone who already has the DVDs and is watching it English, try watching it in Japanese. It's so much better, seriously. Okay, I'm done now.
